Queen Victoria’s sapphire jewelry is of great interest to me as both a Victorian fashion enthusiast and a verifiable September baby.
We start, of course, with the beautiful wedding gift of a sapphire and diamond brooch gifted to Victoria by Prince Albert the night before their wedding in 1840, and she wrote in her diary that it was splendid and beautiful.
Royals like Queen Elizabeth II still wear it to this day.
Also in the year of their wedding, Albert designed a beautiful sapphire coronet for Victoria, and she is seen wearing both pieces in this 1842 portrait resembling, perhaps, the 17th-century style of Henrietta Maria. She wore it again for this portrait in 1876.
