Yes, they are! Just check out these 1880s cabinet cards from the Smithsonian. According to the Encyclopedia of Clothing and Fashion, spectacles with tinted lenses were originally used in Europe for protective purposes against sun and snow, but started to become fashionable accessories during the last two decades of the 19th century. The contemporary term for these would have been sun spectacles, as you can see from this ad published in 1887.
